NCPA Dedicates Efforts to End DIR Fees

The recipient of an MBA in business administration from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Josh Greeson is the owner of Greeson RX. Josh Greeson is a regular attendee of industry events hosted by the National Community Pharmacy Association (NCPA).

Founded in 1898, the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) stands as the leading voice of approximately 21,000 independent pharmacies nationwide. Since 2014, the association has advocated for remedy protocols against direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) fees. This action is the direct result of challenges the majority of independent community pharmacy owners report regarding the retroactive pharmacy DIR fee. According to pharmacy owners, DIR fees make prescription drugs inaccessible to many patients and make pharmacies difficult to manage.

In 2019, NCPA almost succeeded in persuading the Department of Health and Human Services to develop new protocols to remedy the challenge. However, the chances were cut short by the opposition from the White House. In response, NCPA is currently raising a legal case against DIR fees.
